The Lincoln Art Center will feature an exhibit of selected works by Michaela Valli Groeblacher, painting and sculpture, and Dr. Kim Stanley with poetry, both of Lindsborg. This will be displayed at the Lincoln Art Center May 8 through June 26, 2026.

An artist reception will be held Friday, June 26, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Dr. Kim Stanley was a Professor of English at McPherson College for more than three decades. She is also a poet.

Michaela Valli Groeblacher has been a professor of Art at McPherson College, and has just retired and is looking forward to doing art full-time.

This exhibit is about interconnectedness. As humans we do not exist in a vacuum; we are connected and dependent. Is there really ‘my’ life? Do I have a life? Or is there just ‘Life’ and I am part of it, temporarily. The individual art pieces show how the two artists see this interconnectedness with others and with the earth/nature. Therefore, it is fitting that the two artists show as one. Both the artist and the poet share the quiet activism of living pleasantly.

The artists will speak at 6:15 p.m. and visit with guests. Refreshments will be served.

The art center is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to noon. For more information call 785-524-3241 or email lincolnartcenter@att.net, visit our Facebook page, or website lincolnartcenter.org.

The Lincoln Art Center will feature an exhibit of selected photographs by Scott Holl, St. Louis, MO. and watercolors by Meghan Hessman, Salina. The opening reception will be held at the Lincoln Art Center on Friday, March 13, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will be exhibited through April 25, 2026.

Scott Holl, now living in St. Louis, returns to his hometown with Shadow Work: Kansas Photographs in Black and White, a series that explores how light and shadow shape the way we see familiar places. Working in monochrome allows him to focus on structure, texture, and tonal contrast—revealing details that often recede into the background of everyday life.

Through deliberate composition and attention to nuance, Shadow Work invites viewers to pause, look more closely, and rediscover new depth in surroundings they may have long taken for granted.

Meghan Hessman, owner of Sunflower Follies Art Studio in Salina, KS. works primarily in watercolor, gouache, and acrylic mediums. Much of her inspiration comes from her garden, including flowers, insects, and animals. Originally from Clay Center. She is the Art Gallery Curator for Theater Salina.
The Lincoln Art Center will feature an exhibit of selected quilts by Kathryne Perney, Salina, KS, and the Lincoln Quilt Guild. The opening reception will be held at the Lincoln Art Center on Friday, January 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The quilts will be displayed through the end of February 2026.

Kathryne says she was making doll clothes around 8 years old and using the sewing machine. Later, she began making her own clothes. She has loved fabric and putting together different fabrics for a very long time. Sometime in the 80’s she took up quilt making and hasn’t stopped since. Kathryne says “Shopping for and buying fabric is addictive.”

The Lincoln Quilt Guild will have approximately 20 members displaying quilts. They meet on the last Saturday of the month at a local quilt shop, The KC Quilting Company.

The Lincoln Art Center will feature an exhibit of selected works by David Delker, Salina and David Friday, Russell. The opening reception will be held at the Lincoln Art Center on Friday July 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and run through August 30, 2025.

David Delker says “Precision meets passion in this collection of intricately engineered wood forms every lathe-turned curve is both calculated and expressive”. Artistry Turned Loose explores the tension between control and creativity. Each piece begins with mathematical calculations, but ends in movement, warmth, and unexpected beauty. Though precise wood joinery, woodturning, and surface embellishments, the work invites viewers to see not just the grain of the wood, but the mind behind the method-the engineer-artist letting form, function, and freedom collide on the lathe.

David Friday is a mixed-media artist living in Russell. His work is mostly acrylic and thick textures he creates are made with crushed marble and acrylic medium that dry to a stone-hard and durable surface. Friday went high school in Russell then left to go WSU in Wichita and was gone for 45 years living in Dallas, Denver, San Diego, Austin, and Albuquerque. He returned to Russell to escape chaos of the city. His subjects vary from faces from his imagination to the Kansas landscapes he enjoys every day.

The artists will speak at 6:15 and visit with guests. Refreshments will be served.

The art center is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to noon.

The Lincoln Art Center will feature an exhibit of selected works by Bambi Freeman, ceramics, and the drawings of the late Robert Joy in March and April. The opening reception will be held at the Lincoln Art Center on Friday, March 14 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The exhibit will run through April 26, 2025.

Bambi Freeman received a BFA in interior design and ceramics from Fort Hays State University. She was born in Ellinwood and spent countless hours in the surrounding woods. This may be the reason she feels so passionate about Mother Nature and her many gifts. The theme of her ceramic work often revolves around nature, ranging from flowers and plant life, as well as animals and occasionally the human figure.

Robert Joy passed away March 28, 2023. He received his master’s degree in art from Fort Hays State University. Robert was an artist in residence at the Shafer Art Gallery in Great Bend, and displayed his artwork at numerous art galleries in the area.

The artists will speak at 6:15 p.m. and visit with guests. Refreshments will be served.

The art center is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to noon.

The Lincoln Art Center will feature a new exhibit in January and February, entitled “Effect of Exposure.” The exhibit includes selected works by Glen Ediger and David Long, both of North Newton, KS. The opening reception will be Friday, January 10 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The show will run through February 28, 2025.

Glen Ediger is a designer, inventor, lecturer, and award-winning author and artist. Listed as the inventor on over 130 US Patents and retired as Director of Design at Vornado Air. His unique art form is influenced by nature, and he calls it “environmental exposure.” His philosophy is that everything we do leaves an impression and our actions, intended or not, affect our environment and relationships.

“My art-form is an expression of that effect. It intends to expose both literally and figuratively the effects of our actions, by the creating a patina onto the medium, literally creating an effect on the exposed material.”

David Long is a professor of art at Bethel College. Through teaching, Long has been able to experiment with different styles and find inspiration in academics, historical artifacts, architecture, photography, and his students. His work is made of porcelain clay and is wood-fired in a kiln.

The artists will speak at 6:15 p.m. and visit with guests. Refreshments will be served.
The art center is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to noon.
