The Lincoln Art Center will feature an exhibit of selected works by Barbara Stevens, Concordia, painting, and Vaughn Graber, Topeka, woodturning. This exhibit will be shown at the Lincoln Art Center starting July 10, and run through August 8, 2026. An artist reception will be held Friday, July 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Stevens started the Downs Arts Council in January, 1994, with 22 various fine art programs, many of which are still active today. While heading the Art Department at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Stevens facilitated the Whole Wall Project, the largest continuous carved brick relief sculpture in the United States, for 5 years, organizing tours, providing space for the artists to carve, loading and unloading the 12”x8”x4” wet bricks in the 10’ high by 22’ long easels, teaching the first accredited brick carving class in the US, and working with the Cloud County Historical Society and Concordia Brick Plant.
Upon retirement, Vaughn decided he could not play golf, hunt, or fish every day. His excuse for purchasing his woodworking tools was that they would keep him out of the bars and off the streets. He is a member of the Kansas Woodturners, Flint Hills Woodturners, AAW, and the Topeka Sawdusters. He also has a booth at the Woodcarvers Show in Topeka, which is usually held in November. He has shown at Creations of Hope, Leaping Llamas, South Wind galleries, Manhattan Art Center, Lincoln Kansas Art Center, the Kansas Historical Society, Amused, Matryoshka, and NOTO Arts Center. His pursuit of top-notch wood products has led to an absolutely astounding piece of wood art in the solid and segmented bowls that he turns on his lathe.
The artists will speak at 6:15 p.m. and visit with guests. Refreshments will be served.
The art center is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to noon. For more information call 785-524-3241 or email lincolnartcenter@att.net, visit our Facebook page, or website lincolnartcenter.org.
