Fire and Breath

The Lincoln Art Center will feature an exhibit of selected works by Ashton Dawley, Hays, KS, and WenDee Rowe, Inman, KS. The opening reception will be held at the Lincoln Art Center on Friday, September 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the exhibit will be on display through October 10, 2025.

Dawley is a Fine Art major with a concentration in ceramics at Fort Hays State University. He has a particular passion for Raku, a traditional Japanese low-firing technique that embraces unpredictability and organic beauty. He is inspired by intricate Art Deco, which celebrates precision, elaborate line work, and bold, sophisticated design.

“Art is more than a visual medium; it is a powerful language that conveys ideas, challenges perspectives, and leaves a lasting impact,” Dawley says.

Rowe worked at the Lee Richard Zoo, Finney County Museum, and Finney County Convention and Visitors Bureau in Garden City. She served as the local organizer for the Kansas Sampler Festival in 2005. She was hired by the Kansas Sampler Foundation in 2006 and oversaw the annual event until it ended 2017. She is now in charge of communications and promotion of the Big Kansas Road Trip and acts as the liaison with community organizers. Her photos were taken from “The Seat of a Bicycle.”

The artists will speak at 6:15 p.m. and visit with guests. Refreshments will be served.

The art center is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to noon. For more information call 785-524-3241 or email lincolnartcenter@att.net, visit our Facebook page, or website lincolnartcenter.org.
